As co-founder and CEO of NewCo, John Battelle continues his life’s work finding patterns in the massive narrative that is the intersection of business, technology, and culture. John is an entrepreneur, author and journalist. Best known for his work creating media properties, Battelle helped launch Wired in the 1990s and launched The Industry Standard during the dot-com boom. In 2005, he founded the online advertising network Federated Media Publishing. John’s 2005 book, The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture, described the history and impact of search engines and the late emergence of Google from a field of competitors. In John’s spare time, he enjoys yoga, drumming, biking, wine, and being a loving father and husband to his three children and wife, Michelle. John attended UC Berkeley and earned both a BA in Anthropology an MBA in Journalism.
Stacey serves as NewCo’s fearless co-founder and executive producer. She’s produced every NewCo festival to date and has been John Battelle’s business partner since 1995. Stacey was an early team member at Wired, The Industry Standard and Federated Media, and ran her own production company, Stacey Foreman Productions for many years prior to NewCo. At NewCo, Stacey oversees event operations, marketing, sales, and is the guardian of staff happiness. Her middle name is GSD. When not shining a light on NewCos around the world, Stacey enjoys spending time at her home in Petaluma, CA with her two teenage sons. Stacey is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
Co-founder and Chief Evangelist Brian Monahan is an award winning pioneer in the marketing industry who joins NewCo full time after having spent three years as Walmart.com’s Vice President of Marketing. A firm believer that well-executed new technologies can help solve age old problems, Brian conceived of NewCo in 2012 alongside friend and fellow cyclist, John Battelle, while they were on a mountain bike ride through Brian's home county of Marin, CA, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Brian is a graduate of Georgetown University.
Donya has been working with John and much of the NewCo team in various capacities for over three years. Known as "DG" around NewCo, Donya's strong organizational, planning and time management skills allow her to remain flexible and adaptable in the often whirlwind life of a startup. Prior to NewCo, Donya held positions at companies like Conde Nast and Federated Media. Donya’s commendable ability to bring true balance to her work+life gives her valuable opportunities to connect with her beautiful family, her friends, and her commitment to health. A graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Donya holds a degree in Sociology.
Larissa has a long history with our founders, working in media and events from 1998′s Internet Summit onward. As NewCo’s Festival Producer, Larissa’s laser focused attention to detail is put to good use, driving the nuts and bolts for all NewCo Festivals. Larissa enjoys collaborating with great people who hold a common purpose - working toward positive change. When not knee deep in planning and research, Larissa enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, travel, and exploring her creative side. She holds a degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Tim drives process at NewCo, implementing solutions to challenges which, thanks to Tim’s attentive eye, will never surface. He’s passionate about sharing the NewCo story with the world and works closely with companies hosting NewCo sessions. Tim holds an MBA and is a dedicated father, husband, and cyclist.
Drawn to NewCo’s mission to share stories which have the power to change the world for the better, Octavio loves the opportunity to learn from NewCo’s Executive Committee, who have decades of experience driving innovation in media and storytelling. A proud Californian, Octavio is committed to his friends and family. He holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism from
Humboldt State University and a masters in Multimedia Journalism from UC Berkeley.
Sara loves the startup life. She finds great joy in working with an international array of companies and individuals and being constantly exposed to new ideas and the organizations and individuals bringing them to life. When not working hard, Sara hikes, swims, and spends time with family and friends. A graduate of Clemson University, Sara holds degrees in Business Management and Psychology.
